Iniuria, iniuriae, f., first declension: in- plus ius, iuris, so literally "not-right". Roman law makes it a technical delict, an affront to a person's body, liberty or reputation, kept carefully distinct from damnum, damage to property. The general sense of any wrong, insult or outrage runs alongside it in ordinary prose.
The ablative used adverbially is worth learning as a pair: "iniuria" means wrongfully or undeservedly, and its opposite "iure" means rightly, with good cause. Cicero sets them against each other constantly. The false friend is English injury: iniuria is the wrong done, not the wound suffered. A cut or a broken bone is a vulnus.
