Nascor, nasci, natus sum. Deponent and third conjugation, so it is passive in form and active in meaning: natus est is "he was born", and there is no active nasco to look for. The perfect participle natus therefore has an active sense, "having been born", which is not what participles in -tus usually do.
Natus also works as a noun meaning a son or child, and the supine natu appears only in the ablative and only in age expressions, maior natu and minor natu. Of the source: nascor is a nasal-infixed form of gnascor, cousin to gigno and to genus, so gnatus for natus turns up in older texts. Descendants everywhere: natura, natio, nativus, and English nature, nation, native, nascent, innate, cognate, renaissance and, through French, noel.
