Ora, orae, f., first declension. The root sense is an edge or hem, and a coastline is simply the edge of the land: ora maritima. Litus is the actual beach, the sand and shingle where the water arrives; ora is the whole seaboard as a map or a sailor sees it.
Two homographs to keep straight, because both are common. Ora is also the imperative of oro, "pray", and it is the nominative and accusative plural of os, oris, n., "mouth" - so ora can mean "faces" as easily as "coasts". Only the sentence settles it.
