Proficiscor, proficisci, profectus sum is a third conjugation deponent: passive in form, active in meaning. Profectus est is "he set out", never "he was set out", and there is no passive to worry about because the verb has already spent it. The -sc- is inceptive, so the sense is properly getting under way rather than travelling.

Destination takes ad or in with the accusative, starting point ab or ex with the ablative. The second sense, "to originate in", takes ab with the ablative and is common in Cicero. The perfect participle profectus is identical in form to the noun profectus, "progress", which trips people up in indexes.
