redeo

Redeo, redire, redii, reditum. A compound of eo with red-, the shape the prefix re- takes in front of a vowel, and it inherits every irregularity of the parent verb: redis, redit, redimus, reditis, redeunt, with a perfect that is normally redii rather than the fuller redivi.

Destination goes in the accusative with a preposition, or bare for towns and for domus: redire Romam, redire domum. Two traps sit close together. Redit is present and rediit is perfect, separated by nothing but an extra i, and reddo, reddere, "give back", is a different verb whose forms look deceptively similar. The noun is reditus, a return, fourth declension like most supine-stem nouns.
