revelo

Revelo, revelare, revelavi, revelatum, first conjugation and regular throughout: re plus velo, "to veil", so literally to draw the covering back off something. Classical usage is plain and physical - revelare caput, to uncover the head, revelare humum, to lay bare the ground.

Christian Latin takes the verb over for divine disclosure, and Revelatio becomes the Latin title of the last book of the Bible, which is why English has both reveal and revelation from it. Because it is a regular first-conjugation verb the syncopated forms are predictable: revelassent in the corpus is simply revelavissent with the middle knocked out, a contraction the scribes use constantly and which trips people who look for a separate stem.
