Surgo, surgere, surrexi, surrectum, third conjugation. The perfect looks wrong until you know the word is a squeezed subrigo, "raise up from below": sub plus rego. Once the b has assimilated and the vowel has gone, surrexi is exactly what you would expect.

It covers getting out of bed, standing up from a chair, and anything that comes into being - a wind, a shout, a quarrel, a rumour. In this corpus it carries the resurrection more often than not, and resurgo is the same verb with re- on the front. Spanish surgir and English surge, source and insurrection all descend from it.
