Vinum, vini, n., second declension neuter. The i is long, which matters if you are scanning verse.

Romans drank it mixed with water as a matter of routine and thought merum, unmixed wine, the mark of a drunk or a barbarian, so vinum in a Latin text normally means the diluted stuff rather than anything you would recognise from a bottle. The plural vina means kinds or vintages, not quantities. The word is old and travelled far: it sits beside Greek oinos, and from it come French vin, Spanish vino, Italian vino, and English wine, vine, vintage and vinegar, which is vin aigre, sour wine.
