Mandarin · Chapter 13 · Lesson 17 · Phrase session

In a shop

Buying something, and getting out without buying something.

Why these go together

我只是看看 is the most useful thing here and the one no phrasebook leads with. Note the doubled verb: repeating 看 softens it from looking to having a little look, and Mandarin does this constantly.

  • 多少钱?

    How much is it?

    Literally: how much money

  • 太贵了。

    That is too expensive.

  • 我要这个。

    I will take this one.

  • 我可以用卡吗?

    Can I pay by card?

  • 我只是看看。

    I am just looking.

    Literally: I only look look
