报道 (bào dào) is journalism: a news report, and the act of filing one. It works as a noun with 篇 as its measure word, 一篇报道, and as a verb straight in front of its object, 报道这件事.
It belongs to the press and broadcasting, not to the office. A report you hand your boss is 报告 (bào gào), which is a different word with a different second character despite the near-identical sound. Mixing them up is the standard learner slip here.
You will also see 报导 with 导 instead of 道. The two spellings are the same word, both read bào dào; the mainland press has settled on 报道 and Taiwan often uses 报导, so treat them as regional variants rather than as an error.
