程度 (chéng dù) is how far along a scale something sits. It covers a learner's level in a language, the severity of an illness, and the extent of the damage after a storm.
Two patterns carry most of its weight. 在某种程度上 is the standard rendering of to some extent, and 到...的程度 marks the point something reached, as in 累到不能走路的程度.
The English word degree is an adverbial in phrases like to a large degree, and that tempts learners to drop 程度 in front of a verb. It will not go there: it is a noun through and through, so it needs 在 and 上 around it, or a possessive 的 in front of it.
