打赌(dǎ dǔ) - to bet, to wager, to have a bet in Mandarin

打赌 (dǎ dǔ) is the everyday verb for making a bet, and it is used just as loosely as the English one. Most of the time no money is involved at all: 我敢打赌 is simply I bet you, a way of stating confidence.

The person you bet with is introduced by 跟 or 和, and it goes before the verb: 我跟你打赌. What you are betting on follows as a whole clause, with no that: 我跟你打赌他不会来.

Because 打赌 is a verb object compound, anything you insert goes between the two halves, not after them. You say 打个赌 and 打了一个赌, never 打赌一个. Keep the serious gambling sense for 赌博 or plain 赌; 打赌 is the friendly kind.
