袋子 (dài zi) is a bag of the soft, disposable kind: a carrier bag, a paper bag, a sack of rice. It is what you ask for at a till and what you carry the shopping home in.
The suffix 子 is unstressed in speech, so it comes out as dài zi with a neutral tone even though the dictionary form writes a third tone. The measure word is 个, and a plastic bag is 塑料袋.
The trap is the neighbouring words. 包 is a bag you own and wear, such as a handbag or rucksack. 口袋 is a pocket, and also a small bag. 箱子 is a rigid box or suitcase. Ask a shop assistant for a 包 and you have asked to be given a handbag.
