地 (dì) is a noun meaning ground, earth, land or floor: 地上 (dìshang) is on the ground, 地方 (dìfang) is a place, 土地 (tǔdì) is land or soil, and 地球 (dìqiú) is the Earth itself. On its own it is the ground under your feet or a plot of land: 这块地 (zhè kuài dì) is this plot of land, and 地里 (dìli) is out in the fields.
