救救(jiù jiù) - save (me), please help, do save; a pleading reduplication of 救 in Mandarin

救救 is not a separate word but 救 said twice, and the doubling changes the tone of the request rather than the meaning. Reduplicating a verb in Chinese normally softens it into something casual (看看, 试试), but with 救 the effect is the opposite: it makes the plea more urgent and more emotional.

It is almost always a direct appeal with an object attached: 救救我, 救救他, 救救我们. You will meet it in emergencies, in melodrama and in campaign slogans (救救孩子 is a famous line from Lu Xun). It does not describe a rescue that has happened; for that you want plain 救了 or 救出.

The second syllable is unstressed and runs straight into the first, so it sounds like one long word. Do not pause between them, and do not confuse the sound with 舅舅 (jiùjiu, maternal uncle), which is written entirely differently.
