派 (pài) primarily means to send, dispatch, or assign someone to a task (派人去, send someone; 派遣, to dispatch). As a noun it means a group, faction, or school of thought (保守派, conservatives; 自由派, liberals). As a measure word it quantifies a scene or air: 一派胡言 (a bunch of nonsense), 一派繁荣 (an air of prosperity). The English word pie is also borrowed as 派 in 苹果派 (apple pie), particularly in Taiwan.
