稍微(shāo wēi) - slightly, a little, a bit in Mandarin

稍微 (shāo wēi) softens whatever follows it. It sits before the verb or adjective, never after: 稍微冷一点, 稍微等一下.

It almost always wants a small quantity word at the end of the clause to close the pattern off, most often 一点 or 一些, sometimes 一下 with a verb. 稍微冷一点 is natural; a bare 稍微冷 sounds unfinished, as though you stopped talking mid sentence.

The trap is confusing it with 有点 (yǒu diǎn). 有点 goes before an adjective and usually carries a complaint (有点贵, a bit too expensive), while 稍微 is neutral and comparative, describing a small difference rather than a small annoyance. Ask for the volume 稍微大一点 and you are making a polite request; 有点大 means it is already too loud.
