网页(wǎng yè) - web page in Mandarin

网页 (wǎng yè) is a web page, one screen of content rather than the site holding it. 页 (yè) on its own means a page or leaf, the same character used for a page in a book, so a 网页 (wǎng yè) is literally a page of the net.

The distinction from 网站 (wǎng zhàn) matters for GCSE writing about technology: 首页是网站的第一个网页 (shǒu yè shì wǎng zhàn de dì yī gè wǎng yè), "the homepage is the first page of a website", uses both in one sentence and shows the whole-and-part relationship clearly. A site (网站, wǎng zhàn) is made of many pages (网页, wǎng yè).

Common complaints about the internet reach for this word: 网页打不开 (wǎng yè dǎ bù kāi), "the page won't open", and 网页加载得很慢 (wǎng yè jiā zài de hěn màn), "the page is loading very slowly", are both everyday phrases rather than technical jargon, worth having ready for a speaking exam question about problems online.
