网站(wǎng zhàn) - website in Mandarin

网站 (wǎng zhàn) is a website, built from 网 (wǎng, net) and 站 (zhàn, station, stop), the same 站 (zhàn) that names a bus or train stop. A website is a "stop" on the net, which is a tidier metaphor than the English word manages.

It names the whole site, not a single screen within it: 学校的网站 (xué xiào de wǎng zhàn) is a school's website as a whole, covering every page it holds. For one page inside that site, Mandarin switches to 网页 (wǎng yè), so a learner reaching for 网站 (wǎng zhàn) to mean "this page" will be understood but will sound slightly off.

网站 (wǎng zhàn) takes the same verbs as any physical location: 打开网站 (dǎ kāi wǎng zhàn), "open the website", 建网站 (jiàn wǎng zhàn), "build a website", 上网站 (shàng wǎng zhàn), "go to the website". That last one overlaps with 上网 (shàng wǎng), "go online", so context, not grammar, tells you whether someone means the internet in general or one specific site.
