Spanish · Chapter 17 · Lesson 9 · Common mistake
me gusta or me gustan?
The verb agrees with the thing you like, not with you.
The rule
gustar does not mean to like. It means to be pleasing, so the thing you like is the SUBJECT and it decides the verb: one thing takes gusta, several take gustan. me gustan los libros is literally the books please me, which is why the sentence looks the wrong way round to an English speaker.
