Kilo Lingo

Spanish · Chapter 2 · Lesson 20 · Grammar primer

Noun plurals: la casa, las casas

From la casa to las casas: the three rules that pluralise every noun you know.

The short version

The nouns that never change in the plural

Multi-syllable nouns ending in an unstressed -s are identical in singular and plural, and the article carries the entire distinction. It also carries meaning: el lunes is 'on Monday', los lunes is 'on Mondays'. Stress that final syllable and the rule flips back to normal, so el mes becomes los meses.

el lunes, los lunes

Monday, Mondays

That's the gist. The full article goes deeper - more examples, the edge cases, the why - and the practice below scores like a vocabulary session and earns the same XP.
