se me olvidó or olvidé?
One of these quietly removes the blame. Spanish prefers it.
The rule
se me olvidó is literally it got forgotten on me, and it takes the thing as its subject. olvidé is the plain version and reads as an admission of fault. Both are correct, but Spanish reaches for the se construction far more often than English reaches for anything like it, which is why the plain one can sound unexpectedly blunt.
