Exclamations: que, cuanto, como, vaya
How Spanish exclaims: ¡Que bonito! (how lovely), ¡Que casa tan grande! (what a big house), ¡Cuanta gente! (what a crowd), ¡Como llueve! (how it rains), ¡Vaya dia! (what a day), and the accent rule.
The short version
Qué casa tan grande, never qué casa muy grande
Qué plus an adjective means how: ¡Qué bonito! Qué plus a noun means what a, with no word at all for the a: ¡Qué sorpresa! To intensify the noun with an adjective, slot tan or más before the adjective. Muy has no place in this frame, and reaching for it is the classic beginner slip.
