Story milestone: top 500 words

It is the first day of a new week, and the family wants to go far away. For a long time they have all wished to see a new city by the water. It is a big place, far away, with old houses and a long street.

"Are we ready?" the mother asks. "We are," the father says. "Let us go."

They leave the house early. The father drives the car down the way and out of the town. The son looks out at the houses and the people. The children talk and play.

The drive is long. After a while, the little daughter asks, "Are we there?" "Not now," the mother says. "Rest. We will come soon."

At last they come to the city. They leave the car and walk by the water. The father sees the old houses, and the son wants to sing. The children run.

In the city they find a small room to stay. They put their things in the room, and then they go out to eat. By the water they find good food, and they eat and drink together.

After the food, they walk by the water. The children run and play. The mother sits and reads her book. The father looks at the water. It is a happy day.

When it is late, the family sit together. "I love this place," the daughter says. "Can we stay?" "For a few days," the father says. "Then we will go home."

At night the children want their beds now, and soon they sleep. It was a good day, and there are more days still to come.
