How to actually type Esperanto

The US-International keyboard produces none of the six hatted letters - its circumflex dead key covers vowels only, and Windows ships no Esperanto layout at all. The thing that actually works today is PowerToys Quick Accent, which has Esperanto built in and covers all six: hold the letter and tap Space. If you tried the standard advice and failed, the fault was never yours.

The x-system (cx, gx, hx, jx, sx, ux) is a way of typing the six hatted letters, not a way of spelling them. It won on computers because x is not an Esperanto letter, so cx can only ever mean ĉ and converts back mechanically. Use it in a search box or a quick draft, then convert before anybody reads it.

Android is the easy one: add Esperanto as a Gboard language and long-press the plain letter, c for ĉ, and you get prediction that knows Esperanto too. iPhone ships no Esperanto keyboard and long-press offers none of the six, so add six Text Replacement entries: cx becomes ĉ, sx becomes ŝ, and so on.
