The person you go with is a plain direct object. is right; is not, even though is perfectly good. English accompany behaves the same way, but the pull of in the sentence is strong and learners give in to it.
Akompano is the act, akompananto is the one doing it, and the musical sense carries over unchanged for accompaniment.
