Prepositions work as prefixes in Esperanto, and this is one of the most useful results. is to take; is to take something towards yourself and keep it - a habit, a name, a law, a manner. Compare depreni (take off), elpreni (take out), (take away). None of these needed a dictionary entry to exist; the grammar generates them and the reader decodes them.
Adopting a child is , a separate root. is for everything else.
