is transitive and stays transitive: somebody changes something. When the thing changes by itself you need , so and never . English blurs the two with one verb and this is the commonest error learners bring across. For swapping one thing for another the preposition is , and interŝanĝi covers a mutual swap. The noun is a change; loose coins are oj, not , whatever the shop assistant in your head says.
