fariĝi

Fariĝi is fari, to make or do, plus -iĝ-, the suffix that strips out the doer and leaves the change of state: to be made into, that is, to become. It is a linking verb, so what follows stays in the nominative, li fariĝis granda viro, never viron, however strongly the accusative habit pulls. Once -iĝ- clicks you get komenciĝi, finiĝi, stariĝi, nomiĝi and hundreds more for nothing. Kio fariĝis el li is the idiom for what became of him.
