April
Word origin
From Latin Aprilis, the fourth month of the Roman year. The Romans themselves connected the name with Aphrodite, whose month it was said to be, while later scholars prefer aperire, to open, for the month when the buds open.

Other proposed origins
- The oldest Roman account makes Aprilis the month of Venus, from an Etruscan borrowing of the Greek name Aphrodite. (Etruscan, from Greek, Aphrodite)
- Varro and most modern etymologists derive it instead from aperire, to open, for the season when buds and blossom open. (Latin, aperire)
