is intransitive and lives on two prepositions: for the thing you are against, for the cause you are for. Both senses of the English verb come with it, from a battlefield to a campaign for a principle. Keep it apart from , which means to hit and is transitive - is striking a person, is a fight. The noun is a battle and a fighter.
