A warning for anyone who has just learned the prefixes: the - here is not the sudden-start prefix. The root is ekzamen-, borrowed whole, and cutting it into - plus zameni gets you nowhere. The word covers the doctor's once-over and the school test with equal comfort. The participle suffixes then do the naming for you: is the one examining, the one being examined, and the ordeal itself. For research rather than inspection, is the better verb.
