Translation
to trust, to rely on
Examples
.
I trust you.
.
She trusted her friend.
.
Do not trust strangers.
forton.
He trusts his own strength.
.
One can rely on her word.
Both patterns are current: with a direct object and with the preposition mean the same thing, and you will meet each in good writing. Pick one and be consistent within a text. Keep it apart from , which is about believing what is said rather than relying on the person saying it, and from , which is to entrust something to somebody or to confide in them. Fido is trust, faithful, and i is to distrust.
