The root is unusually productive: ĝoji (to rejoice), ĝoja (joyful), i (to gladden), ĝojkrii (to cry out for joy), and the whole - branch with o for sorrow. In speech the verb does most of the work - ĝojas, is the everyday way to say you are glad, far commoner than any noun phrase. itself skews slightly literary, and you will meet it most in songs, poetry and the older translated classics. Note the cause takes pro.
