Built straight off , joy, so the shape is transparent even before you meet the word. Esperanto carries two everyday words for sad and they are not quite interchangeable: is the sorrowful one, grief that has a cause, while is the gloomy one, a mood with no particular news behind it. The noun is o, and i is to sadden someone.
