kruĉo

Watch the hat. Kruĉo is a jug. Kruco at rank 1,414 is a cross. One letter apart, and the letter is the circumflex: ĉ says ch as in church, plain c says ts as in cats. So the jug is KROO-cho and the cross is KROO-tso, and if you write kruco when you mean the jug you have put a crucifix on the picnic blanket. Type the hat, or type krucxo in the x-system, but do not let it fall off. This is one of the few places on the site where the hat carries the whole meaning.

The vessel family, sized. A glaso at 1,064 is what you drink from, a taso at 1,183 is a cup with a handle, a pokalo at 2,053 is a goblet or the trophy shaped like one, a botelo at 1,158 has a narrow neck, and a kruĉo is the wide-mouthed thing with a lip that you pour from. Kruĉeto is a small one, the milk jug on a breakfast tray.

The picnic word. This chapter's story, La pikniko, needs it constantly, because a picnic is essentially a list of containers: somebody carries the kruĉo, somebody forgets the tasoj, and somebody verŝas too fast. Note that da rather than de is what follows a measure: kruĉo da akvo, a jug of water, but la kruĉo de mia avino, my grandmother's jug.
