This is the best etymology in the chapter, and it is also a false seam twice over. Esperanto has muso for mouse and kolo for neck, so reads beautifully as "mouse-neck". It is not that. There is also a root , moss, and no suffix -- to add to it. - is one indivisible borrowed root.

And yet the mouse is real. Latin musculus is literally "little mouse", named for the way a bicep bunches and slides under the skin like something alive under a blanket. So the mouse is in the word's history and not in its Esperanto structure - the same shape as parfumo and its smoke. English "mussel" is the same Latin word again, for the same reason.

The family is regular. is muscular, muskolforto muscular strength, senmuskola weedy. And the metaphor works in Esperanto as it does in English: a argument is a forceful one.
