Three senses share the page, and all three are the Latin nota doing its old job of marking something down: the written note you leave on the table, the musical note on the stave, and the mark a teacher writes on your work. German and French use their versions of the word for school marks too, so the third sense trips up mainly English speakers, who expect "grade". The verb noti means to note down, and notlibro is a notebook, a word this site's author has strong feelings about.
