The adverb oficiale does a lot of work in Esperanto movement prose - officially, on the record - and neoficiala covers the unofficial. The root is ofic-, an office or post held by a person, so oficisto is a clerk or official as a job, oficejo is the physical office, and ofico is the post itself. English collapses office the room and office the position; Esperanto keeps them apart, and once you notice that, half the confusion goes.
