Translation

to prosper, to thrive; to succeed

Examples

.

The town prospered for many years.

, .

I hope that your work will prosper.

.

His business is not thriving.

.

The flowers thrive in the warm garden.

!

May our language prosper and live long!

is intransitive: a thing prospers, nobody prospers a thing. If you want the causative, add --: i , to make the business prosper. The subject can be a person, a town, a business or a plant, which is broader than English prosper allows. Zamenhof used it freely in the sense of turning out well, so reads as the matter came to nothing rather than the matter went bankrupt. For the narrow sense of managing to do a specific thing, is the safer verb.
