This is the honest one in a chapter full of false seams. plus really does give , to place under, and both senses fall out of that picture: you put a proposal under somebody's eye, and a conqueror puts a country under his rule.
It is transitive and takes for the person receiving: . The reflexive sin means to give in. Note the neighbour i, to become subject, which uses -iĝ- to turn the action back on itself.
