The whole grammar of sits in one ending. Because putting is movement, the destination takes the accusative: , , and the question word is , not . Drop the -n and you have said the book was already on the table while you put it, which is nonsense. Compare , which involves no movement and so takes no -n. The root builds well: enmeti (insert), demeti (take off), (assemble, and the term for compound words), i (put away).
