Examples

.

Do not burden the horse with too heavy a sack.

The pattern to memorise is X per Y: the thing that receives the load is the direct object and the cargo comes in with per. English lets you load the wood onto the cart or load the cart with wood; Esperanto prefers the second shape and the first sounds foreign. The noun ŝarĝo is a load or burden, ŝarĝveturilo a lorry, and senŝarĝigi means to unload or relieve. It works on abstractions as readily as on carts, so a person can be per zorgoj and nobody blinks.
