The root hands you the whole weight family without a dictionary: pezo is weight, pezi is to weigh (intransitive, so pezas ), a is light, and o is the weight you drop on a scale. carries the figurative sense too, exactly as English does: a heavy heart, a heavy silence, a heavy responsibility all take it without anyone blinking. The one thing to watch is pezi against pesi. The second means to weigh something else, so the greengrocer pesas the apples while the apples pezas a kilo.
