fero and the reason bridges and rails exist. The
adjective is ŝtala, and figuratively it does the same work as in English -
ŝtala volo, a will of steel.
A false seam. Four consonants at the front make the word look assembled,
and ŝt- in particular looks like it ought to be a prefix. It is not.
is a single root, -, taken whole from German Stahl, and there is
nothing inside it to take apart. Esperanto has a decent number of these
Germanic ŝt- and ŝp- roots - a stone, a step, a
theft, ŝpini to spin - and every one of them is one piece.
Watch the neighbours in this set: steel, a theft, a
stone. One vowel apart, and a story about a stolen steel stone would be
entirely legal Esperanto.
