Word origin
A table word from Zamenhof's correlative system: the demonstrative stem ti- ('that') plus the possessive ending -es, exactly parallel to kies ('whose'). Invented for the 1887 Unua Libro rather than borrowed.

The rarest but most surgical of the possessives. points back to the subject; ties points at the last-mentioned someone else. In ties , the wife belongs to the brother, not to - a distinction English needs "the latter's" to make. It never takes -j or -n.
