Lia is "his", built from li plus the adjective ending -a. Being an adjective it agrees with the thing owned rather than the owner, so you get lian manon and liajn librojn. The trap is sia: when the owner is also the subject of the same clause, Esperanto insists on sia, which is why li rigardis sian manon means his own hand while lian manon would mean somebody else's.
