English uses "write" for two jobs and Esperanto splits them. is the physical act of putting marks on paper: you a letter, a name, a shopping list. is composing something that counts as a work: a novel, an article, a song. You can for an hour and nothing at all. The root gives verko for the work itself, o for a professional writer and o for a collected edition, so one root replaces most of an English bookshelf's worth of vocabulary.
