Open TV5MONDEplus (free, no card needed) and pick a series from France, Belgium, Switzerland, Québec or Africa. Turn the French subtitles on, watch the first episode or its first twenty minutes, and write down two lines you understood. Then sum it up in two sentences of French.
Subtitles in the language you are learning are the trick: you read and hear the same words at once, and your ear catches up faster than you expect.
