Possessive adjectives
mon, ma, mes, ton, ta, tes, son, sa, ses, notre, nos, votre, vos, leur, leurs - and the mon-before-feminine-vowel rule English speakers miss.
The short version
Mon amie is still feminine
Before a feminine noun starting with a vowel or silent h, ma, ta and sa swap to mon, ton and son: mon amie, ton école, son histoire. The noun does not change gender; French is only bridging two vowels. Slip an adjective in front and the feminine comes back: ma bonne amie.
Mon amie Sophie est médecin.
